Little Rock, Arkansas

I was raised by parents who had a passion for travel. My family moved over thirty times, living in different towns, states and countries while I was growing up. This way of life taught me many things—the benefits of exposure to multiple cultures and recognition of my hypersensitive relationship to the land. Through drawing and painting I am able to accesses a voice of reason in this unsettled world. My paintings are a response to the environment in which I live and they broaden my perspectives on life. From inspiration found in the vast horizons, urbanscapes, mountains and mesas, I capture their essence and explores their mysteries on canvas through abstraction. I recently graduated with a Master of Fine Art in Painting at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. My work is exhibited and sold in Arkansas and New Mexico as well as being in public and private collections.
For the last three decades I have worked as a professional artist based in the Arkansas Ozarks. My career began in three-dimensional work, predominately in clay, metal, and stone and eventually evolved into painting. I have devoted my work entirely to drawing and painting since 2000.
With a desire to expand my knowledge of painting, drawing and art history, I returned to academia. In 2005 I earned a BFA in studio art, painting emphasis, from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. After that I sold my house and belongings, loaded up the car with my painting and drawing supplies and moved to New Mexico to earn an MFA at New Mexico State University and paint with abandon in the desert terrain. My relationship with New Mexico has been ongoing; I have traveled back and forth from Arkansas to northern New Mexico since 1989 exploring the landscape. I have a internal identification with the land and know there is something valuable for my artwork that the high desert and mountain environments can offer.
