Sean Fitzgibbon, a native of Southwest Missouri, works as an illustrator and fine artist. He obtained his Master of Fine Art at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas and his Bachelor of Art from Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri. He also studied art and design at the Joe Kubert School of Art in Dover, New Jersey. Fitzgibbon believes it is his responsibility as an artist to communicate visually using whichever media best conveys the information, feeling, or emotion he wishes to express. His work is often a combination of drawing, painting, photography, and found objects. Although many different mediums find their way into his art, drawing is the backbone of his work.
Experiences and people he has encountered during his travels throughout Europe, Mexico, and the U.S inspire much of his work; while the concepts in his work are inspired by an interest in phenomena that breach the norms of the commonplace. The themes of mystery Fitzgibbon’s work imparts upon the viewer are facilitated by his use of imagery, both natural and manmade. Fitzgibbon currently lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas, and is working on a variety of projects including a graphic novel focusing on stranger-than-fiction true stories.
